An intermediate is evaluated by what the next process step requires. Begin with its sequence or structure, terminal state, modifications and intended downstream transformation. A generic name may omit details that affect coupling, purification or yield.
Specify the handoff point
Describe whether the material should arrive crude, partially purified or to a defined analytical specification. Provide your preferred form and packaging. If the next stage has sensitive impurities, explain which tests are important to your acceptance decision.
Review evidence and handling
Ask how identity is established, what batch documents will accompany shipment, and which storage conditions are supported by the supplier’s data. For a custom intermediate, a pilot quantity may be useful before agreeing on commercial volume.
